Dear Parents and Guardians,
Congratulations to all of our students who were recognized as National Honor Society members last night. It was great to see so many students highlighted for their accomplishments.
We also had a great theater production of Alice in Wonderland earlier this week, where our theater class got to perform for both their peers and some of our future Greyhounds. It was great to see so much talent from our students.
We are excited to see our winter sports and concerts seasons kick off in the upcoming weeks. Please check our app (ActivityScheduler) for upcoming games.
Please come out this Thursday December 12th to support our band and the following Wednesday, December 18th to support our Choir. These are sure to be magical events that really highlight the talent of our students.
Have a great weekend, Dr. McCann

As a reminder, students must be present in school for four hours to receive credit for being in attendance. If a student comes in late with under 4 hours left in the day, or leaves school prior to having attended for 4 hours, he/she will be considered absent based on the rules outlined by the state of New Jersey and our attendance policies. As you know, it is crucial that students are present in school each day to receive their instruction. We hope that appointments can be scheduled outside of school hours. However, we understand that this is not always possible. If you child leaves school early for a doctor’s appointment or to take their driving test, please just provide this documentation within 48 hours to our attendance office so this absence can be excused. Additionally, as a reminder, students will lose credit in a semester course after accruing more than 5 absences for that semester. Students will lose credit from a full year course after accruing more than 18 absences. Please check your student’s PowerSchool for their most current attendance. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns. NBHSattendance@nburlington.com | | | We are beginning the winter sports season. While we appreciate our students wanting to come out and support their classmates, we are not equipped to provide supervision to student spectators. As a result, students who wish to watch a basketball game or wrestling match must first go home and then return, Middle School students may return with a responsible adult who will stay with them for the duration of the contest. | | | |

Acknowledging gratitude also decreases stress hormones. The short-term result is a reduction in anxiety and an improvement in mood. In the long-term, regularly practicing gratitude may also lead to lasting changes in your brain, priming you to be more grateful moving forward.” The article talks about other bonus benefits of gratitude such as better sleep, improved focus, higher self-esteem, increased patience, and social and physical health benefits. Built into this article are mindfulness techniques as well as an audio meditation called Gratitude in Difficult Times. To cite an example they use, in which your car gets a flat tire, instead of looking at all the negatives, choose to be grateful for your job so you can afford repairs, or how fortunate you are to have a close friend who can drive you home.
