I thought I would share an article by Helpguide.org which discusses the benefits of practicing gratitude and how it can help your mental health. “This kind of thinking leads to a release of serotonin and dopamine, chemicals in the brain that are associated with happiness and pleasure. Acknowledging gratitude also decreases stress hormones. The short-term result is a reduction in anxiety and an improvement in mood. In the long-term, regularly practicing gratitude may also lead to lasting changes in your brain, priming you to be more grateful moving forward.” The article talks about other bonus benefits of gratitude such as better sleep, improved focus, higher self-esteem, increased patience, and social and physical health benefits. Built into this article are mindfulness techniques as well as an audio meditation called Gratitude in Difficult Times. To cite an example they use, in which your car gets a flat tire, instead of looking at all the negatives, choose to be grateful for your job so you can afford repairs, or how fortunate you are to have a close friend who can drive you home. For the full article, and I promise it will be worth it, click here.
Students will watch a short Relay promotional video in their homeroom next Tuesday.
