We will see you all when school reopens on April 28. | | Thank you to all who contributed to our community service project. Also, thank you to our students who worked diligently for the different phases to put together the bagged lunches for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.
At the end of the day, we were able to send off over 500 lunches to TASK. | | Congratulations to the cast, crew, and directors on Beetlejuice, Jr. It was an excellent show and fun to watch. We look forward to seeing what our 8th grade thespians will accomplish in high school and what our 7th graders will do next year with a year of experience under their belts. | | We are entering the season for standardized testing. When we return from spring break, the 8th graders will be completing the science testing during the week of April 28. During the week of May 19 both grades will be completing math and English Language Arts testing. During those days the school will follow modified schedules to allow time for students to complete the testing and see their classes. Most notably, the students who begin the day in the high school will report directly to the middle school on the days of testing. | | Senior Citizen Prom The annual Senior Citizen Prom will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 1pm - 4pm. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0849A9AC2BA0FB6-56240219-2025 | | The counselors have completed course selection meetings with the current 7th grade students. The classes they have chosen are viewable on Powerschool. If you have any questions, please reach out to their counselor, Mrs. Irwin (zirwin@nburlington.com).
*Please note that if your child selected JROTC as one of their electives: The middle school and high school are not on the same schedules, therefore they will take a high school bus and begin school in the high school every other day. They will have a double PE period on the opposite days in the middle school. A schedule change after the year has started is not possible because of the double period. The high school counseling team has also met with all rising 9th graders to finalize course requests for the 2025-2026. Please log into PowerSchool to review all course requests. All changes to course requests will be honored prior to May 1, 2025, at 2:30pm. If the change requires a course waiver, a signed COURSE WAIVER FORM must be submitted by May 1, 2025 at 2:30pm. All requests to make changes to course requests submitted after May 1, 2025, will not be reviewed until after the master schedule has been finalized. At that time all efforts will be made to accommodate the changes but it is not guaranteed. Please contact our HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING TEAM via email to make any changes. | | | Here are scenes of our students preparing the bagged lunches for our TASK community service project and boxing up the completed lunches. | |

Thank you to all who planned and contributed to the different events held over the course of the month. | | After spring break the high school is going to begin construction work on the auditorium. There may be construction traffic that interferes with the regular traffic flow. Please plan accordingly and be sure to allot extra time to arrive at school for parents who are dropping their children off to school. | | The Northern Burlington Band Booster Club is hosting a bag bingo on May 3 at 5 pm, at the middle school. If you are interested, please see this FLIER for more information. | | The Northern Burlington Golf Team is having a team fundraiser at Chickie and Pete's on Monday, May 5th, 2025. Please see the attached flier for more information. | | With Spring break upon us, I thought it might be helpful to discuss school refusal/avoidance because a break in the routine or extra days off can exacerbate this issue. According to the article School refusal: Children and Adolescents, school refusal is defined as when “children get extremely upset at the idea of going to school and often miss some or all of the school day.” Here are some signs of school refusal: Crying, tantrums Refusing to move Beg or plead not to go Hide or lock themselves in their room Show high levels of anxiety Have trouble sleeping, or complain of stomach aches Threaten to hurt themselves
As the article states, there is not usually a single cause of school refusal “It might be linked to anxiety or worries about leaving home,a recent change, a phobia, learning difficulties, social problems or depression.” But whatever the cause, avoidance/refusal works for the student because they are able to avoid the stressor or if they are worried about something at home it keeps them close by. The article suggests to first try to understand the issue from your teen’s point of view. Also, to have them rate each part of the school day to see where they are most uncomfortable. Helping your child see what they can problem solve about can also help them regain some control over the situation. No matter what the issue is, the article strongly supports that the child continue going to school as you are trying to resolve the issue. It builds their confidence and resilience and it will be easier for them to return if they haven’t been out too long. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to the school to let them know what is going on. Teachers and administrators can often brainstorm and help lighten the stress your child is feeling. Lastly, to get more support for your child and yourself, talking to a counselor can give you both strategies to work on managing all the feelings that your child is experiencing. The article has more information than I can include here.
