The middle school building has come back to life with the return of our students. We are looking forward to a wonderful school year. That being said, there will certainly be ups and downs. As parents, there are inevitable challenges of having an adolescent child. Please do not hesitate to contact a member of our faculty or staff if we can be of assistance.

The middle school Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 11th, from 6:30 pm to approximately 9:00 pm. This is a night for parents to visit with the teachers who are working with their children and learn about the different courses and programs offered at Northern. The schedule for the evening will be as follows:
6:30 pm to 7:00 pm: Welcome and program overview in the cafetorium 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Classroom Visits In order to prepare for the evening, you will need to access your child’s schedule on PowerSchool for the order of classes and the room numbers. For the evening, during the classroom visits, you will follow your child’s schedule and simply skip the lunch period. So please take a few moments to ensure you can access your child’s schedule on PowerSchool and are able to identify the room numbers. Of course, the best person to ask for assistance will be your child. They can review their schedule with you prior to the 11th. Please note: Parents of students taking JROTC will meet with a JROTC instructor in the MS Media Center period 1 - 2, and go to see the PE instructor, Mr. Rafferty, in the gym for period 3 - 4. We look forward to welcoming the parents of our students at Back to School Night. Please note that this is a program for parents. To ensure enough space in the classes, we request that students remain at home. |

Chromebooks play a vital role in our school, everyday. Students need to take the time to charge it every night so it is ready to go in the morning. We encourage students to bring their charger with them to school and leave it in their locker, just in case. Students also need to bring their Chromebook with them everyday to school. We do not have enough to lend out to students who forget, so we will arrange for students to call home to have parent/guardian/grandparent/older sibling/neighbor bring it to school when they forget. In addition, it is important that students take good care of their Chromebook. Families may be charged for damages to Chromebooks. If they experience any technical issues, please have them report that to the main office as soon as possible. |
|
For those students who begin the day in the high school, primarily for JROTC, the HS will be using an A/B Day schedule to rotate courses. That calendar can be found here. |
|
All students have been issued a school ID card in a lanyard. It is expected that students will wear that ID at all times unless there are special directions not to wear it from a staff member. Students who are not wearing their ID card will have their privileges limited and may be subject to disciplinary consequences.

NBC home football games ARE NOT a drop-off event. Anyone in the Middle School or Elementary Schools attending a Northern Burlington home football game must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The fall sport organizational meetings were held today, Friday (9/6), after school. In order for students to try out for a team, students must have completed the athletic registration process that includes a specific sports physical and be cleared by Northern Burlington’s school doctor. Parents will receive an email from the school notifying them when their child has been cleared.
Students should listen to announcements at school and the respective team Google Classroom pages for updates on practice schedules. |
|
During the course of the school year, students will participate in various standardized assessments. Assessment Information and NB’s Assessment Schedule is available on the Office of Curriculum and Instruction (Academics) website in the Student Assessment section. Information in this location will be updated as it is realized by the state of New Jersey for the 2024-2025 school year. |

How many things can you worry about at once? Or in a day? A lot I bet! Worries are so convincing! However, in reality, according to a study by Cornell University, 85 percent of what we worry about never happens. And further, they found that in the 15 percent of cases where worries “came true,” 79 percent of people handled them better than they thought they would or learned something valuable from the experience. As adults, we are still trying to master this ability, so imagine adolescents, being newer at the job of balancing demands and worries, might really struggle with this especially at the start of a new school year!. Making a decision NOT to believe the misfortune that your worried thoughts see in your future is the first step. Doing things to calm your brain is the second. One technique you can try on your own and/or teach is this: Press the center of your palm with your thumb like you are pressing a button. Breath in for 1 and think red. Breathe in for 2 and think blue. Breathe in for 3 and think green. On each exhale try to think of nothing for a moment. Spending 90 seconds to distract yourself away from the worry is believed to rewire your brain, interrupting the fight or flight response. The other strategy to help battle worry is to practice leaving work and school behind. One strategy to try is to pick a landmark on your way home and imagine tossing a bag that is your day onto it. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote this to his daughter: Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders, losses, and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; let today go so you can begin tomorrow well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. Each new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on yesterdays.” What good advice to give as a new school year begins.
